Get the documentation your college accessibility office asks for

Many students reach college before anyone notices ADHD. High school structure and family support kept things together, and then independent schedules, long readings and exam pressure make the cracks show. If you are struggling, a diagnosis and the right accommodations can change how a semester goes.

ADHD IQ offers full online ADHD evaluations for undergraduate and graduate students who are in Ohio, New York or Connecticut at the time of the appointment. You meet Pamela Moss-Samuelson, LISW-S, by secure video from your dorm, apartment or home, and you receive a detailed written report that you can take to your campus disability or accessibility office.

How accommodations work in college

Colleges that receive federal funding must provide reasonable accommodations to students with documented disabilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Unlike high school, nothing happens automatically. You have to register with the accessibility office (it may be called Disability Services, Student Accessibility Services or similar), share documentation and request accommodations.

Each school sets its own documentation rules. Most ask for a recent evaluation from a licensed clinician that states the diagnosis, how it was made, and how it limits you in an academic setting. A short note from a provider is often not enough.

Accommodations students with ADHD often receive

  • Extended time on exams and quizzes
  • Testing in a reduced-distraction room
  • Breaks during long exams
  • Note-taking support or permission to record lectures
  • Priority registration, to build a workable schedule
  • A reduced course load while keeping full-time status, at some schools

The accessibility office decides what is reasonable for you, based on your documentation and a conversation with you.

What our evaluation includes

  1. Online rating scales and history forms. You can invite a parent, partner or roommate to add their view, which helps a lot when childhood memories are fuzzy.
  2. Academic records. Transcripts, old report cards and teacher comments help show how symptoms have affected school over time.
  3. Virtual diagnostic interview with Pamela, covering your history, current symptoms, executive function and related issues like anxiety, mood and sleep.
  4. Written diagnostic report based on DSM-5-TR criteria, describing the diagnosis, how it affects you academically, and recommended accommodations, usually within about two weeks.
  5. Free feedback session to review the report and talk through how to present it to your accessibility office.

The full evaluation costs $750. See what is included and how insurance reimbursement works.

Standardized exams (SAT, ACT, GRE, LSAT, MCAT and others)

Testing agencies have their own documentation rules, which are often stricter than a college’s. Some require cognitive or academic achievement testing in addition to a clinical evaluation. If you need accommodations for a specific exam, send us that agency’s guidelines before you book, and we will tell you honestly whether our report will meet them.

Frequently asked questions

Will my college accept an online evaluation?
Most colleges care about who did the evaluation, how it was done and what the report says, not whether it happened in an office. Check your school’s documentation guidelines, and bring us any form your accessibility office wants completed.

I go to school in one state but live in another. Can I be seen?
You need to be physically in Ohio, New York or Connecticut at the time of your appointment. Many students schedule during a break at home.

What about medication?
ADHD IQ does not prescribe. Your report gives your primary care provider, campus health center or psychiatrist what they need to consider a medication trial.

Can you help after the diagnosis?
Yes. Many students continue with virtual ADHD coaching and therapy for college students to build study systems and manage deadlines.
